My primary research interests are to develop and use biomedical informatics approach to identify an effective means of exploring complex multi-omics data, investigate genetic underpinnings of asthma and COPD in diverse populations, and leverage these and other insights to better understand disease pathophysiology. In the Himes Lab, I have performed genome-wide association analyses of asthma, COPD, asthma-COPD overlap, bronchodilator response in asthma patients, and other related respiratory conditions with data from TOPMed program and UK Biobank; developed expertise in a wide range of omics data analyses (genomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, proteomics etc.); managed our Linux server to provide technical support for data management and analyses; and worked closely with web-lab scientists to help accomplish their research goals.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in applied statistics and M.S. in food and nutrition from Yonsei University, South Korea, and Ph.D. in nutritional sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. During my years in the field of nutrition, I mainly worked on the application of Bayesian latent variable models to pattern recognition in food intake data to capture underlying dietary behaviors while improving the limitation of traditional approaches as well as studied the influence of genetics and exercise on dietary patterns.
